PRODUCT DESIGN | FABRIC COLLECTION
Meli from Lome creates cuddly plushies filled with herbal goodness for her little clients. She wanted to have her own line of fabrics that would be unique to her and her business. I made sure the print placement was on par with her sewing pattern and embroidery template and no pattern elements were overlapping the plushie's cute faces! Before starting with the designs I made sure I knew everything about Meli's process. This way I could help her cut down on fabric waste and save money for her business.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
MELI'S PLAN
Meli wanted to start her own fabric line to become independend from manufacturers, because some of her client's most loved designs became unavailable over the years. Her fan-favorites should always be available - without compromises.
THE PROBLEM
She had already found a manufacturer, but didn't know how to start the process of designing seamless repeat patterns. Some of her available fabrics also posed a challenge, because some of the motifs obstructed the stuffy's face, which she needed to embroider. And if she wanted to place certain elements onto the stomach, she was left with lots of clippings and wasted materials.
MY SOLUTION
After creating and talking through the brief for all seven fabric designs, I started creating various motif sketches and layout arrangements. Then Meli picked her favorites and I showed her different colour schemes for each fabric. By using her embroidery template and sewing pattern as a base I made sure the face was only covered in minor elements to not distract from the face. I also arranged the most prominent design on the stuffed toy's belly. To ensure there was as little waste as possible, I designed each fabric with the running meter in mind.
MELI STADLER
From the first conversation to the execution, everything was always 100% perfect. I really enjoy sewing with my fabrics and my customers are very enthusiastic about our own fabric patterns!
